A comprehensive periodontal exam involves:

 

-Complete medical history and review of current medication

 

-Soft tissue exam including cancer screening of the oral cavity

 

-Hard tissue exam noting bony irregularities

 

-Review of current periapical x-rays and Panorex

 

-Complete periodontal probing noting gingival recession, furcation involvement, pocket depth, and tooth mobility

 

-Formulation of a treatment plan based on findings
